Discover teamLab Planets TOKYO: An Immersive Art Experience

If you’re planning a trip to Japan and are looking for a unique and unforgettable experience, teamLab Planets TOKYO in Toyosu is a must-visit destination.

This immersive museum invites visitors to wade through water and become part of the art itself. In this article, we’ll guide you on how to enjoy this spectacular exhibition, including tips on how to get there and where to purchase tickets.

Dive into an Artistic Wonderland of Light, Sound, and Water

teamLab Planets TOKYO is a one-of-a-kind “museum where you walk through water,” offering seven immersive art installations that envelop you in a world of light and sound.

Opened in July 2018 and running until the end of 2027, this museum is divided into four large areas, each designed to engage your senses through sight, touch, and sound.

The artworks, based on teamLab’s “Body Immersive” concept, aim to dissolve the boundaries between the viewer and the art. Here, we’ll introduce some of the highlights and provide practical information for your visit.

1. Lose Yourself in ‘The Infinite Crystal Universe’

One of the most famous installations, The Infinite Crystal Universe, allows visitors to wander through a space filled with ever-changing lights and colors.

The reflections create a sense of endless crystal universes, providing a mesmerizing experience.

Using the Exhibition App, you can interact with the installation by projecting six different icons, known as “elements of the universe,” creating a unique and collaborative space.

2. Interact with Colorful Koi and Flowers

In Drawing on the Water Surface Created by the Dance of Koi and People – Infinity, vibrant koi fish swim and draw lines in the water. As you wade through knee-deep water, seasonal flowers bloom around you.

The artwork continuously changes based on the movements of the visitors, ensuring a one-of-a-kind experience every time.

Adjacent to this installation is Cold Life, featuring teamLab’s distinctive “spatial calligraphy.” The interplay of beautiful reflections and gentle water movements makes this installation a must-see.

3. Lay Back and Watch Floating Flowers

In Floating in the Falling Universe of Flowers, a semi-spherical space filled with blooming and withering flowers of various colors invites you to sit or lie down.

The changing seasons and flowers create a sensation of floating in a different reality.

With the Exhibition App, you can even send butterflies into the space.

This dynamic artwork ensures that no two experiences are ever the same.

4. Play with Floating and Color-Changing Spheres

Expanding Three-dimensional Existence in Transforming Space – Free Floating, 12 Colors features luminous spheres that create a maze-like space.

You can move these spheres, which change into 12 different colors upon contact. The soft hues and floating movement give a dreamlike feeling.

5. Explore the Soft Black Hole

In Soft Black Hole – Your Body Becomes a Space that Influences Another Body, visitors walk through a soft, sinking space filled with mounds and depressions. Each step makes you acutely aware of your body and the presence of others.

Falling is part of the fun as the soft ground catches you gently. Relax and enjoy the unique sensation.

Dining Options After Your Visit

After immersing yourself in the art, head to the nearby restaurant and food stand for a delightful meal.

The Bowl Steakhouse offers everything from steaks and salads to fresh seafood from the nearby Toyosu Market. If you prefer a light snack, visit the Everything is in your hand food stand right in front of the exhibition entrance.
